This course is centered on the close reading and analysis of Jane Austen's Emma. Students are expected to understand the novel in its cultural and historical contexts and, at the same time, relate themselves to the novel. Particular attention will be paid to the relationship between characters and their surroundings.
授業概要
Through the close reading of the text, we will examine how the material elements; food, fashion or houses, are interrelated with the natural elements; flowers, trees or landscapes. Students are encouraged to acquire skills in the analytical reading of the text and deepen their understanding of characters' psychological interplay with their surroundings.
